Trees in the foreground. The Mill Creek Fire, burning on  the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, was reported by an outfitter on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 23. The fire quickly spread from a single tree to approximately 30 acres as firefighters responded to the blaze.

The fire is located in the Upper Green area, north of the Green River. The fire started approximately 500 feet from a private parcel of land with structures. The fire did not reach the private land.

Responders include 2 engines from the High Desert District BLM with UTV’s fitted with water tanks, 1 engine from Grand Teton NP, 2 US Forest Service suppression modules with UTV’s for a total of 20 firefighters. A Type 3 Helicopter will be available for bucket work and additional personnel if needed.

Crews engaged the fire into the night of the 23rd and were able to knock down the active flaming fronts. Cold temperatures aided in minimizing fire activity through the night. Firefighters will be working to keep the fire within its current footprint and prevent any growth today. Unseasonably warm and dry weather is expected through Saturday with a chance of moisture Saturday night into Sunday.

There are currently no closures associated with the fire. The public is urged to stay clear of the fire area and use caution while traveling on roads, drive slowly and watch for fire traffic and pockets of smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
