Pacific Creek II

The second of two fires in the Pacific Creek drainage to date this season. A lightning detection flight found the small fire while flying the area after the thunderstorms from July 15. Tactics will include full suppression and minimum impact suppression tactics (MIST) as required for the Teton Wilderness Area.

Pacific Creek

The Pacific Creek fire is a lightning caused fire located along Pacific Creek within the Teton Wilderness of the Blackrock Ranger District. A local outfitter, horseback riding in the area, saw a small column of smoke and reported the fire. Firefighters determined the fire had a low spread potential and because the fire is located within the Teton Wilderness, will implement a suppression strategy by way of Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST).

West Hoback Fire

Afternoon thunderstorms on July 5th, are responsible for  two new lightning caused fires in the Hoback area of the Jackson Ranger District. The first is located on a north facing slope, burning in mixed brush and timber, west of Volunteer Fire Station 3. Two helitack have been delivered to the top of the ridge above the fire and suppressing the .01 acre fire described as having low spread potential.  

Pinyon Ridge

On the evening of July 1, a member of the public reported a fire that resulted from lightning striking a tree along Pinyon Ridge in the Upper Green River area of the Pinedale Ranger District. This person began suppression efforts and then called it in.

Bearpaw

Late on the evening of June 23rd visitor reported an illegal campfire on the shore of Bearpaw Lake.  Park volunteers doused the fire before dark and reported that it was still smoldering the litter and duff beneath the fire.  Interagency firefighters responded the following morning and mopped up and completely extinguished the smoldering heat.

Cottonwood

The Cottonwood Fire was detected late Monday May 31st as power bumps affected the Moose/Beaver Creek area.  A downed line was reported to Teton Dispatch on the bench above the Bar BC Ranch off of the River Road access.  WY-GTP E-301 responded and quickly suppressed the fire once the line had been de-energized.
