The Cottonwood Creek Fire was discovered on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in the Sohare Creek area, northeast of Gunsight Pass and west of the Cottonwood Creek drainage (the fire is located approximately 6 miles southwest of the Fish Creek Fire). The lightning-caused Cottonwood Creek Fire is currently 7-acres in size burning in dead and down timber and younger mixed-conifer. Air attack operations, including 2 air tankers dropped retardant lines around the fire.

Gros Ventre Slide

Heavy lightning passing over the Flat Creek and Kelly areas are responsible for the Gros Ventre Slide fire located within the GV wilderness area. Crews accessed the fire after crossing the Gros Ventre River to determine the fire's jurisdiction to be on the BTNF, burning in heavy dead and down timber. Firefighters have been granted mechanical use to fully suppress the half acre fire.

Thank you to the neighbors living in Kelly for the intel and support in locating the fire.

8/14 Firefighters continue to suppress and mop up the fire hauling water from the GV river.

Cow Creek

Lightning from storms over the area started the small fire located in upper Cow Creek drainage, in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. Crews hiked into the fire and requested a 72-gallon "blivit" of water to help support full suppression action on the fire.
