The Southern Area is home to four Interagency Hotshot Crews (IHC)
Asheville IHC
The Asheville IHC was established in 1989 and is one of three IHC Leadership Development Programs in the nation. Asheville IHC is hosted by the National Forests in North Carolina, and is based out of Asheville, NC. The program is operational from January through May. Augusta IHC

The Augusta IHC, established in 2001, is hosted by the George Washington/Jefferson National Forest in Virginia, and is based out of Augusta Springs, VA. The Crew Superintendent is Derek Kramer. The crew is generally available from mid-March through late-August.
Cherokee IHC

The Cherokee IHC is hosted by the Cherokee National Forest, and is based out of Unicoi, TN. The Crew Superintendent is Brandon Corbitt. The crew is generally available from mid-June through November.
Jackson IHC

The Jackson IHC is sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management, and is based out of Jackson, MS. The Crew Superintendent is Darren O'Loughlin. The crew is generally available from Mid-March through late-August.
The Davidson River IA Crew, established in 2008, is hosted by Schenck Job Corp Center (JCC) and is based out of Pisgah Forest, NC. Davidson River is the only fulltime Type 2 IA crew in the Southern Region. The Crew assistant superintendent is Bill Coates. The Crew has an embedded Type 6 engine and can also be broken down into RX modules. The crew is generally available from early January to mid-May and the Type 6 engine is also available throughout the summer. www.fs.fed.us/r8/dvr
