Fort Howes fire station is located south of Ashland Montana on Otter Creek directly in the heart of the Ashland Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. The BLM fire station has just recently been rebuilt new and the onsite housing has been well maintained and provides living quarters for both permanent and seasonal firefighters. Many outdoor recreation options are available from hiking and camping to fishing and hunting. In the distance you will often see the snow draped Bighorn Mountains as Sheridan Wyoming is an hour and a half drive south of the station. Fort Howes is remote in location but rich in history.
