About Us:

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is seeking highly motivated individuals for summer employment in a variety of wildfire positions.

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest encompasses Northern Utah from the Idaho border to the southwest corner of Wyoming, south to the Nephi, Utah, and west to Tooele, Utah. 

 
 
We have duty stations located in:
  • Logan, UT
  • Ogden, UT
  • South Weber, UT
  • Salt Lake City, UT

  • Heber City, UT
  • Spanish Fork, UT
  • Mountain View, WY

    The Forest encompasses 2.1 million ecologically diverse acres, ranging from 4500 feet to 13,528 feet in elevation. The UWF is one of the most heavily visited forests in the nation.

    Employment Requirements

     
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Valid Driver's License
  • At least 18 years old (as of first work day)
  • Pass background investigation
  • Pass Fire Physical Exam
  • Negative drug test
  • Pass Work Capacity Test (pack test) - 1st day
  • Complete Basic Fire School once hired.

    • Physical Fitness

    Wildland fire fighters need a high level of muscular and cardiovascular fitness to perform safely in difficult environments. Be prepared to work in steep terrain, extreme temperatures, high altitude, and smoke. 

    Applicants must pass a work capacity test (pack test) as a condition of hire. The pack test consists of a 3-mile hike with a 45-pound pack over level terrain. The test must be completed in 45 minutes or less. This test is administered on the first day of work. Applicants that fail the test will not be offered a firefighting position.

    Fire Fit

    This program was created with the intent to provide the interagency wildland fire community with a comprehensive, easy-to-follow, fitness program with the ultimate goal of improving firefighter safety and health and reducing injuries. This program provides a basic format for a well balanced fitness program that can be augmented as local units see fit.
