INITIAL ATTACK SAFETY CHECKLIST

Has the fire been sized up?

Do you have a current fire weather forecast?

Is the observed fire weather consistent with the forecast?

Can you control the fire with the available resources?

Have you developed a plan of attack?

Can you see all the fire area or have lookouts in place that can?

Can you communicate with everyone on the fire?

Are escape routes and safety zone identified?

Are the 10 Standard Fire Orders being followed?

Can you control the fire before the next burning period?

Have you reported the status of the fire to the dispatcher?

Do you have a complete list of all resources on the fire?

Can you safely manage the resources on the incident without exceeding your comfort level with span of control?

If you answer "NO" to any of the above questions, you must take corrective action IMMEDIATELY!
