Dead Fuel Moisture

This is the moisture content of dead organic fuels, expressed as a percentage of the oven dry weight of the sample, that is controlled entirely by exposure to environmental conditions.

Hundred Hour Dead Fuel Moisture (100hr)

The 100 hour fuel moisture value represents the modeled moisture content of dead fuels in the 1 to 3 inch diameter class. It can also be used as a very rough estimate of the average moisture content of the forest floor from three-fourths inch to 4 inches below the surface.

The Meyers RAWS went offline on 3/21/2012 and was replaced by Baron, which is sited in an area more representative of the fire environment in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Baron began transmitting on 7/22/2011.

A SIG was created in order to provide a historical dataset for the Lake Tahoe Basin. Meyers data is used for observations prior to 7/21/2011, both RAWS are used for 7/21/2011-3/21/2012, and Baron data after 3/21/2012 is used for current calculations.

In addition, the Meyers/Baron data was re-added to the Northern Sierra PSA & NZ SIGs.
