On July 19th Trenton Johnson, a firefighter with Grayback Forestry, was fatally injured while working on the Florence fire located on the Seeley Lake Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest, MT. The NRCC extends condolences to the family and friends of Trenton and Grayback Forestry.

Large incidents are defined as fires which are 100+ acres in timber or 300+ acres in grass/brush, or incidents with a Type 1 or 2 IMT assigned. New Emerging / Large Incidents

SOUTH BREAKS, Miles City Field Office, BLM. Full suppression management strategy. Lightning caused, located 27 miles NE of Mosby, MT. Type 2 Indident Management Team (Connell, IC) will inbrief today and will be managing the Bridge Coulee, Square Butte, and Barker fires as the Lodgepole Complex. Timber (grass and understory). Extreme fire behavior with wind driven runs, long-range spotting and group torching. Anticipated containment 08/02.

SUNRISE, Lolo NF. Point zone protection and confine management strategy. Lightning caused, located 11 miles SE of Superior, MT. Type 2 Incident Management Team (Pearson, IC) will inbrief today and also manage the Burdette fire. Timber (litter and understory) and brush (2 feet). Active fire behavior with group torching and spotting. Numerous residences, admin sites, campgrounds, infrastructure, I-90 corridor and other structures threatened. Road closure in effect. Anticipated containment 08/01.

BURDETTE, Lolo NF. Point zone protection and confine management strategy. Lightning caused, located 13 miles SE of Tarkio, MT. Type 2 Incident Management Team (Pearson, IC) will inbrief today and also be managing the Sunrise fire. Timber (grass and understory) and closed timber. Active fire behavior with isolated torching and uphill runs. Anticipated containment 08/09.

MEYERS, Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF. Full suppression management strategy. Lightning caused, located 25 miles SW of Philipsburg, MT. Timber (litter and understory) and heavy logging slash. Active fire behavior with uphill runs, group torching, and short-range spotting. Area closure in effect. Anticipated containment 10/21. IC is also managing the Whetstone fire.

SAGE HILLS, Yellowstone County, MT. Full suppression management strategy. Unknown cause, located 4 miles S of Billings, MT. Timber (grass and understory) and brush (2 feet). Active fire behavior. Numerous residences threatened. Road closure in effect. Anticipated containment 07/22.

MONAHAN, Lolo NF. Point zone protection and monitor management strategy. Lightning caused, located 17 miles NE of Seeley Lake, MT. Timber (grass and understory) and short grass (1 foot). Moderate fire behavior. Cabins threatened. Trail closure in effect. Anticipated containment 10/01. Last report unless significant activity occurs.

IMT is also managing the Corral Creek fire. Tall grass (2.5 feet), brush (2 foot) and short grass (1 foot). Active fire behavior with flanking, backing and running. Residences, ID Fish & Game work station, powerline and other structures threatened. Road and area closure in effect. Anticipated containment 07/24.

CORRAL CREEK, Craig Mountain Area Office, IDL. Full suppression management strategy. Unknown cause, located 15 miles E of Anatone, ID. Tall grass (2.5 feet), brush (2 feet) and short grass (1 foot). Minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Residences and other structures threatened. Road and area closures in effect. Anticipated containment 07/23.

BRIDGE COULEE, Miles City Field Office, BLM. Full suppression management strategy. Lightning caused, located 16 miles N of Moseby, MT. Type 2 Indident Management Team (Connell, IC) will inbrief today and will be managing the Square Butte, Barker and South Breaks fires as the Lodgepole Complex. Timber (grass and understory). Extreme fire behavior with short crown runs, running and long-range spotting. Numerous residences and other structures threatened. Evacuations and road closures in effect. Anticipated containment 08/02.

SQUARE BUTTE, Miles City Field Office, BLM. Full suppression management strategy. Unknown cause, located 19 miles N of Sand Springs, MT. Type 2 Indident Management Team (Connell, IC) will inbrief today and will be managing the Bridge Coulee, South Breaks, and Barker fires as the Lodgepole Complex. Timber (grass and understory). Wildland Fire Management Team (Hutton, IC). Timber (litter and understory). Extreme fire behavior with short crown runs, wind driven runs and short-range spotting. Residences, lookout structure and communication facilities threatened. Area closure in effect. Anticipated containment 09/30.

ARRASTRA CREEK, Helena-Lewis and Clark NF. Full suppression, point zone protection and confine management strategy. Lightning caused, located 6 miles NW of Lincoln, MT. Wildland Fire Management Team (Hutton, IC) is also managing the Park Creek fire. Timber (litter and understory). Extreme fire behavior with short crown runs, wind driven runs, short-range spotting. Mining claim threatened. Area closure in effect. Anticipated containment 09/30.

SLIDEROCK, Lolo NF. Full suppression and point zone protection management strategy. Lightning caused, located 28 miles SE of Missoula, MT. Type 2 Incident Management Team (Leach, IC). Timber (litter, grass and understory) and closed timber. Active fire behavior with short crown runs, uphill runs and long-range spotting. BPA powerlines, communication site and other structures threatened. Evacuations, road and trail closures in effect. Anticipated containment 10/15. Leach IMT2 is also managing the Lolo Peak and Little Hogback fires.

LITTLE HOGBACK, Lolo NF. Full suppression management strategy. Lightning caused, located 17 miles SE of Stevensville, MT. Type 2 Incident Management Team (Leach, IC) is also managing Sliderock and Lolo Peak fires. Timber (litter, grass and understory) and closed timber. Active fire behavior with short crown runs, uphill runs and long-range spotting. Road and trail closures in effect. Anticipated containment 10/31.

LOLO PEAK, Lolo NF. Full suppression management strategy. Lightning caused, located 8 miles NW of Florence, MT. Type 2 Incident Management Team (Leach, IC) is also managing Sliderock and Hogback fires. Type 1 Incident Management Team (Poncin, IC) will inbrief today. Closed timber litter and timber (litter and understory). Active fire behavior with short crown runs, uphill runs and long-range spotting. Area, road and trail closures in effect. Anticipated containment 09/09.

WHETSTONE RIDGE, Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF. Full suppression management strategy. Lightning caused, located 25 miles SW of Philipsburg, MT. Timber (litter and understory) and heavy logging slash. CRYING, Petroleum County, MT. Full suppression management strategy. Unknown cause, located 20 miles NW of Benzien, MT. Short grass. Active fire behavior with running and torching. Ranch and outbuildings threatened. Anticipated containment 07/24.

TURTLE, Northern Cheyenne Agency, BIA. Full suppression management strategy. Unknown cause, located 2 miles SW of Ashland, MT. Timber (grass and understory) and brush. Minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Anticipated containment 07/22.

COTTONWOOD - ROSEBUD, Miles City Field Office, BLM. Full suppression management strategy. Unknown cause, located 7 miles N of Lame Deer, MT. Timber (grass and understory). Minimal fire behavior. Declared 100% contained.
