The Central
Utah Interagency Fire Organization is comprised of the Richfield and Fillmore Field
Offices of the Bureau of Land Management, the Southern Paiute Agency of the
Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Fishlake
National Forest, Capitol
Reef National Park, and the Central Area of Utah Division of Forestry Fire and State
Lands.
This is an
area encompassing almost 12.3 million acres of federal, state, and private
lands. Elevations range from 4,000 feet to 11,500 feet above sea level.
Fuel types in the lower elevations primarily consist of cheat grass, sage
brush, and pinion and juniper trees. In the higher elevations you will find
oak brush, aspen, douglas and subalpine fir, and ponderosa pine.
The current
10-year average for fire occurrence and acreage burned is 188 fires for
37,787 acres. The busiest season on record is 1996 with 297 fires; 300,457
acres; 9 project fires; and 12 incident management teams mobilized to our
area.
Central Utah
is dispatched by the Richfield Interagency Fire Center. When fully staffed
for fire season there are 10 employees.
