WGBCC News and Notes

During May 2011, the Western Great Basin Coordination Center instituted social networking into the dissemination of information and Intelligence to the firefighting community and the general public. We feel this technology offers a number of benefits the traditional webpage does not, including quicker updating and maintenance, allowing followers to receive information more quickly.

By creating a Twitter account and selecting to follow us, one can set up their account to receive WGBCC Tweets directly to their cell phone, PDA, desktop,etc.

At this time, not all agencies have approval to access Twitter, so the WGBCC will continue to maintain both the WGBCC News & Notes (Traditional Page) and the WGBCC News & Notes (Twitter page).

Disclaimer: Most initial attack activity in the Western Great Basin is managed within the local centers’ areas of influence, using their own or their neighbors’ resources. As a result, a number of fires are not reported to WGBCC throughout the day unless the fire is in need of additional resources. Therefore, since WGBCC cannot keep track of fires within each local center’s area, News & Notes can only report on those fires for which resources are requested through WGBCC, or on which the local center provides WGBCC with specific information.
