Dan Oltrogge is given award by Bob Lineback, Chair of the Southwest Coordination Group, on May 8th after a morning Grand Canyon fire briefing. The award was in recognition of Dan's many years of leadership on Southwest Incident Management Teams. Dan recently completed 5 years as the Incident Commander of one of two Southwest Type 1 teams.

As a leader, Dan Oltrogge was a master of strategies and direction. Each turning point on any incident was addressed with a kaleidoscope of thought and decisive action. His ability to see past the initial fire, catch minute details, and drive the vision was his greatest asset as an incident commander. As an incident became challenging his response was always "this is what we do best..... this is why we are here......this is where we shine."

As a teacher of many, his abilities and commitment to the team was treasured and respected by all. Dan will be missed by his team but will continue to participate in national incident leadership to help forge new thoughts and direction in the areas of fire, emergency and leadership.
