QUESTIONS:

When will a version for ArcGIS 10.0 be released?   After many issues, FIMT v10 is NOW released.  See below.  Please note, there are issues with compatibility with other ArcGIS versions.

Is there a version for 10.1?   There has been tests run against beta v10.1. However, there is not a version released at this time. When an official version is released, a new install will be provided on the website.

What is the correct version to use on an incident?   For the 2012 fire season, two latest versions are supported, but there were issues until August 17th 2011, on the release of a version for ArcGIS 10.0.  Please feel free to use any version with the understanding of how it affects other parties / relieving teams.

Do the current FIMT tools work with ArcMap 9.3 / 9.3.1 ?   NO. Version 9.2.1.8 works with 9.2 SP3 and 9.3.x    Version 10.0.0.11 does not work on any version prior to ArcGIS v10.

If the tools work in v10.0, what issues might arise if you have users in v9.3 working on the same GeoDataBase?   The incident GeoDataBase needs to be created with the v9.3 software.  The v10 software can edit a v9.3 GDB. However, the reverse is not true.  V9.3 cannot edit / view a v10 GDB.

Does version 9.3.0.9 / 10.0.0.11 work with Vista or Windows 7?   So far, all tests appear to work on both operating systems. However, the install instructions are different. User must right click on install package and choose "Load as Administrator.".

Notice: FIMT only works with a C: install of the software?   Sorry this problem was not caught prior to release. Just ensure software is installed on C drive.

Are there any enhancements coming out soon?   There is current work going on to make improvements to the software. However, the contract is held up at the Department of Agriculture. It is expected work will begin soon and the enhanced version will be out in the fall of 2012.

How does FIMT calculate the Auto size fields?   Due to users not understanding all of the implications of projections and fires growing outside of normal projection areas, the software is designed to automatically calculate AutoFeet, AutoMeters, AutoAcres, and AutoHectares, by projecting the feature into Albers Equal Area projection and centering the projection on the centroid of the feature.  This is done to reduce the distortion of the feature and to have a standard calculation value.  This is a deliberate effort due to many cases where different calculation conversion values were used.

XY Domain Update

For versions 1.83, 9.0.3, 9.0.5.1 there is a file that assists in setting up the spatial domain for the geodatabase when created. Over the years, there have been a lot of new projections provided in the software. This download provides instructions and new file to update the lookup file.  Since ArcGIS 9.2 and FIMT version 9.2.0.2 the need for this file is gone due to high precision geodatabase coordinate space.
