QUESTIONS:

When will the next version for ArcGIS 10.x be released?   FIMT has several released versions that work with ArcGIS 10. A new version will be out in June or July, 2014. Come back soon to see if it has been released. See below.  Please note, choose the correct install for your ArcGIS version.

Is there a version for 10.2?   There has been tests run against beta v10.2. However, there is not a version specifically released at this time. When an official version is released, a new install will be provided on this website.

What is the correct version to use on an incident?   For the 2014 fire season, it is recommended to use v 10.1. However, any of the versions for ArcGIS 10.1 and later will work. Please feel free to use any version with the understanding of how it affects other parties / relieving the current team.

Do the current FIMT tools work with ArcMap 9.3 / 9.3.1 ?   NO. Version 9.2.1.8 works with 9.2 SP3 and 9.3.x    Version 10.0.0.11 does not work on any version prior to ArcGIS v10.

If the tools work in v10.0, what issues might arise if you have users in v9.3 working on the same GeoDataBase?   The incident GeoDataBase needs to be created with the v9.3 software.  The v10 software can edit a v9.3 GDB. However, the reverse is not true.  V9.3 cannot edit / view a v10 GDB.

Does version 9.3.0.9 / 10.0.0.11 work with Vista or Windows 7?   So far, all tests appear to work on both operating systems. However, the install instructions are different. User must right click on install package and choose "Load as Administrator." or "Run Elevated".

Are there any enhancements coming out soon?   A new version will be out in June or July, 2014. Come back soon to see if it has been released.

How does FIMT calculate the Auto size fields?   Due to users not understanding all of the implications of projections and fires growing outside of normal projection areas, the software is designed to automatically calculate AutoFeet, AutoMeters, AutoAcres, and AutoHectares, by projecting the feature into Albers Equal Area projection and centering the projection on the centroid of the feature.  This is done to reduce the distortion of the feature and to have a standard calculation value.  This is a deliberate effort due to many cases where different calculation conversion values were used.

The team is considering changing to use Esri's Calculate Geometry for all size values, but that decision has not been made.

RedZone Folders

The company RedZone created a small application that will automatically create the folders each day for an incident. It will be off until it is turned on and then it will run until turned off. A very useful tool. Thank you Clark W..

XY Domain Update

For versions 1.83, 9.0.3, 9.0.5.1 there is a file that assists in setting up the spatial domain for the geodatabase when created. Over the years, there have been a lot of new projections provided in the software. This download provides instructions and new file to update the lookup file.  Since ArcGIS 9.2 and FIMT version 9.2.0.2 the need for this file is gone due to high precision geodatabase coordinate space.
