The Gunnison River Crew is an interagency Type 2 Initial Attack (IA) Crew hosted by the Montrose Interagency Fire Management Unit and dispatched through Montrose Interagency Dispatch Center (MTC).
The Gunnison River Crew will be dispatched utilizing the following procedures:
- Orders for the crew will be received through established dispatch channels.
- Montrose Dispatch will contact the on-call crew boss and relay pertinent information concerning crew mobilization.. The crew boss and dispatch will determine the crew meeting place and plan for logistical support.
- Dispatch will notify the Fire Management Officers (FMOs) for Gunnison, Norwood and Ouray Zones and Black Canyon Park of the crew order and type of crew requested. Faxes will be relayed as necessary.
- FMOs will make contacts with their individual resources and fill their allocated crew slots. FMOs will work together with dispatch to ensure that crew configuation meets the minimum qualifications and percentage of fire experience required for the type of crew ordered per Section 62.2 of the National Mob Guide:
For 40% with 1 season experience - 8 experienced and 12 new firefighters
For 60% with 1 season experience - 12 experienced and 8 new firefighters
- If any FMO is unable to fill their full committment, dispatch will contact the other areas for additional crew members.
- FMOs will provide vehicles for their resources as available. Dispatch will coordinate between zones when there is a vehicle shortage. Ouray Zone is responsible for transportation of crew tools and equipment when the meeting place is other than Montrose. A crew trailer is available in and maintained by the Ouray Zone.
- Crews will demobilize to Montrose. Crew cache will be refurbished prior to disbanding crew members to their home units.
