A closed low pressure was forming over the southeast corner of Southern California and will maintain well below normal temperatures and fairly high humidity today and Tuesday. There is very little moisture with the low, with only a slight chance of a shower today with low snow levels near  3,000 feet.   Winds will be north to northeast 15 to 30 mph with higher gusts over the mountains and below the canyons and passes of Southern California.  Elsewhere, winds will be north to east 5 to 15 mph with higher gusts.

A ridge of high pressure will build into the region from the Pacific bringing warmer, drier conditions Wednesday and Thursday.  Another North Pacific trough will move through the region late Thursday, with showers over Central California, but none over Southern California.  It will be followed by gusty north winds over the region Friday through the weekend.  Winds over Southern California during that period will be 20 to 40 mph with higher gusts over the mountains and below canyons and passes.

Dry weather is expected over the region the first of next week, with a chance of  precipitation mid week.

Weather Synopsis:
***HOT AND DRY THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY***

A Pacific trough will bring cooler temperatures and higher humidity to the region through Monday.  The marine layer will remain deep through Monday, with morning low clouds and fog moving over the lower coastal mountain slopes.  There will be locally strong and gusty westerly winds over the mountains and deserts this afternoon through Monday.  A strong ridge of high pressure will build into California from the Pacific Ocean bringing a big warming trend and very low humidity to most of the region Tuesday through Saturday.
Temperatures will be 15 to 25 degrees above normal and humidity will be mainly in the single digits and teens across the region Thursday through Saturday.  END/Shameson
Fire Potential Discussion:
The potential for large fire will be low to very low across the region through Tuesday.  There will be little or no fire activity across most of the region through Tuesday due to below normal temperatures and above normal humidity.  However, the potential for fire activity will be greatest over the deserts due to locally strong and gusty winds at times and fairly low humidity.  The potential for large fire will become high over the valley and foothill locations and increase elsewhere across the region Thursday through Saturday as temperatures become well above normal and humidity becomes very low.  Initial attack will most likely increase into the moderate or heavy range across the region Thursday through Saturday.
