Mobile Fire Equipment Sub-Committee

CHARTER

Mission

The Sub-Committee will seek input, analyze effectiveness, and make recommendations to the Regional Fire Equipment Committee for adoption and implementation. The sub-committee will also report on actions implemented.

Objectives

• Evaluate field input on crew transport, engines, water tenders and other water handling equipment/technology.
• Make recommendations on proposals from the field involving crew transport, engines and associated equipment/technology.
• Serve as intermediary between the field and RFEC in matters relating to engines and related equipment. Provide feedback to the field on their requests. Serve as a representative to the National Wildfire Equipment Conference and Workshop “C”.
• Make recommendations and provide input to the Regional Fleet Manager and San Dimas Technology Development Center (SDTDC) on engine, water tenders and crew transport design changes through the RFEC.

Group Composition

The committee will consist of field membership selected from their interest and willingness to serve and related background in the field of engines, crew transports, water tenders and other mobile fire apparatus or water handling equipment/technology. The goal is to seek a balance of representation from Engineer/Captains, Chief Officers, or IHC Superintendent based on Northern, Central and Southern California. Representatives from Regional Fleet and Mechanics are essential. Participation from SDTDC is highly desired to provide insight and technical support as needed.

Replacement of Members

The Division Chief Committee is responsible to identify replacement committee members. Committee members will have concurrence from the Forest Supervisor and unit heads. (Note: As of 11/27/99, this has not been concurred with by the Division Chief Committee. The proposal is in process and Charter will be revised.)

Selection / Tenure / Duties of Chairperson

• The Chairperson will be selected by the MFEC members, subject to approval by the RFEC. The Chairperson should be at the Forest FMO/Deputy FMO level.
• The tenure will be 3 years unless mutually agreed to by the Members and incumbent.
  
• The Chairperson is responsible to call meetings, coordinate agendas, identify budget and facilitate timely input or take other actions as they arise.
• The Chairperson will attend all RFEC Meetings.

Meeting Frequency

The MFEC will meet twice per year to provide input to the RFEC. Additional Task Forces may be needed to accomplish MFEC tasks.
