Smokejumpers practicing tree let-down procedures.Training for a Smokejumper is an ongoing continuous process whether you’re a first year rookie candidate or a thirty year veteran.

Refresher Training

A smokejumper refresher is conducted at the beginning of fire season for all smokejumpers. Skills such as aircraft exits, parachute manipulation, PLF’S (Parachute Landing Falls), timber letdown procedures, parachute and cargo retrieval are reviewed and practiced.

Tree climbing, timber falling (crosscut and chainsaw), first aid, fire line operations as well as smokejumper standard operating procedures are also covered.
