This prescribed fire is part of a Hoback Junction Fuels Reduction project to reduce risk to homeowners and property, reduce future fire potential intensities during unplanned fire events, and increase safety for fire suppression crews.

A human-caused fire in the Deer Creek area (in the vicinity of the burn unit) was reported on September 23 and was suppressed and declared out on September 24. The incident shows the potential for wildland fire ignitions and the subsequent need for increasing defensible space in the Hoback Junction area.

Palmer Creek Trail is open. Users should be cautious and know that short fire runs, falling trees, or smoke may be present in or adjacent to the burn unit. Fire information boards in the area include maps of the prescribed fire area. Residual smoke may be present in the Hoback area for the following week.
